Pick the Pact whose primary Virtue matches your weapon pips first — Courage for melee, Grace for bows and blades, Spirit for magick. Your starter Pact is not permanent: after Tuvalkane Bond Level 3 you can craft and swap any Pact at the Nightfold.

Pact-wide strength, not per-build; Courage/Grace/Spirit gaps are large — see Builds. Mora's Hand (A) and Garren Rood (B) lowered one step after P11 community feedback. P11 pact tier video (subjective overall tiers, not per-virtue). Vs that video our table is higher on Ode Tempest (S+ vs S), Tethren/Bromius (S vs A/A+), and lower on Sirin (B vs A−). Not a tier endorsement — compare before Faction grinds. Other sources still disagree (e.g. Tethren/Bromius B in P10 due to bugs since fixed). Wyld variants mirror base Pact tier. Patches can shift balance — try in-game first.

Melee Bruiser
The melee bruiser pact. Rewards aggressive forward combat with stacking damage and crowd control. Preludes 15 Courage bruiser Pact: stacking melee damage with Fellust. Free Virtue per loadout since Virtue Lith removal.
Crowd Control + Support
The best starter pact for new players. Combines crowd control, healing, and damage in one flexible kit. Preludes 15 (Oscelda): Virtue is free per loadout (no Virtue Lith). Review Pact Arts renames before respeccing.
Stealth Rogue
The stealth rogue pact. Rewards positioning, deception, and striking from the shadows. Preludes 15 Grace stealth Pact: Glamour repositioning and precision strikes. Starting Pact — unlock all Pacts at Tuvalkane after the tutorial.
Lightning Melee
Top-tier Courage Pact in Preludes 15. Atmos Sphere grants near-total damage immunity windows while reflecting attacks. Seismor and Astra Sphere provide lightning melee synergy. Requires substantial Faction progression to unlock at Tuvalkane. Verify balance each patch — top-tier status is community consensus, not guaranteed post-nerf. Virtue respec is free per loadout in Arsenal → Virtues.
Fire Melee
A fire-focused melee pact built around igniting enemies and punishing their burns. Preludes 15 fire Courage Pact: strong burst and stagger tools for mid-game Agari. Pair with whole-weapon drops and Chordstone refinement at Tuvalkane.
Life Drain + Command
A commanding spirit pact that drains enemy life to sustain allies and weakens foes before overwhelming them. Preludes 15 (Garren Rood): Virtue is free per loadout (no Virtue Lith). Review Pact Arts renames before respeccing.
Pack Hunter
A pack-oriented spirit pact that grows stronger with allies nearby and can transform into a wolf for high-mobility finishers. Preludes 15 Spirit pack Pact: spirit summons and ranged pressure. Whole-weapon farms may roll Craftwork — preview drops before pickup.
AOE Tank + Armor Steal
A nature-powered tank pact built around maximising armour and dealing heavy AOE damage. Gets significantly stronger after level 15.
Duelist / Burst DPS
A Grace duelist pact built around Flintlock pierce shots, Duo Duelo ghost-clone burst, and Chamariz after perfect dodge. Community/video claims say bleed stacking (Olho por Olho) and Bravado perfect-dodge slow were weakened after Preludes 14 — pending gameplay check, not confirmed. The S tier reflects the Flintlock + Duo Duelo core, not bleed reliance. See the detail page P11 note. Unlocked via The Wreck of Mestra Carmo.
Melee Bruiser
Wyld Tethren is the Founders Pack cosmetic variant of Tethren — same Courage melee-bruiser kit (Fellust stacking, Call of the Ancients, Clash), not a separate damage identity. Use this page with the Wyld Tethren weapons shortlist: start on The Ivor (Founders / Sovereign line), keep Wulder as the forgiving Courage long blade, and graduate to Needleseye when you want a heavier Courage swing. There is no unique official Wyld-only theorycraft — follow the same play patterns as the Tethren melee bruiser guide, then confirm Pact Art names after Preludes 15 renames. Virtue Lith is gone: allocate Courage freely per loadout.
