Garren Rood · Spirit control shell
Overview
Garren Rood is a Spirit-based Pact focused on crowd control, life drain, and AoE damage. Torment drains enemy life and heals allies, Behest incapacitates nearby enemies, and Stampede calls a column of spectral stags. High Spirit investment extends Arcanic duration — particularly important for Behest and Stampede.
- Pact: Garren Rood
- Virtue: Spirit (invest all points here)
- Playstyle: Control-first, sustain, AoE
How to unlock Garren Rood
Complete The Torment Stag fable to receive the Garren Rood Fragment. Craft the Pact at Tuvalkane in the Nightfold (Bond Level 3 required).
Core loadout
- Gwylen — starter Magick staff, Spirit-attuned. Available from character creation with Oscelda, or via Faction Tales. Good baseline damage and range.
- The Erstroot — Spirit-attuned Magick staff, drops from the Garren Rood boss encounter. Higher damage tier for Spirit builds.
- Odiac — Spirit-attuned Magick sidearm. Good secondary option for Spirit builds.
- Torment — Courage Arcanic. Drains a portion of enemy life and heals the caster or nearby allies. Deals damage proportional to remaining enemy life — very strong on high-HP targets.
- Behest — Spirit Arcanic. Incapacitates nearby enemies and renders them vulnerable to damage. Righteous passive reduces its cooldown.
- Stampede — Grace Arcanic. Summons a column of spectral stags charging forward. Stuns and damages enemies in the path.
How to play it
- Invest all Virtue points into Spirit — increases Arcanic duration (especially Behest and Stampede) and weapon damage with Spirit-attuned weapons
- Open with Behest — incapacitate the group, then cast Torment on the highest-HP target for maximum life drain
- Use Stampede on chokepoints — the stag column charges in a line from where you cast; doorways and narrow corridors maximise hits
- Herdheart passive — healing activity extends active Rune duration; combine with Torment for extended Rune uptime
- Righteous passive — reduces Behest cooldown; priority unlock in the Pact progression tree
When to use a different build
- Courage or Grace-resistant encounters — Torment deals proportional damage regardless of resistance; Behest and Stampede effectiveness may vary. Verify current resistance interactions in-game.
- Single-target burst requirements — Garren Rood sustain underperforms in very short encounter windows; consider Ode Tempest for pure burst
