Chordstones are forged at Tuvalkane. In Preludes 15 they power the Refine tab — uplift Craftwork and roll Tempers on weapons you pick up or already own.

Higher Chordstone tiers need Lampyrites (Glow, Amber, Faer) from sieges — especially Turret Jotar — Cogah, chests, and Tuvalkane sprite-husk casting.
You cannot reroll a single bad Temper today. If Refine gives you an unwanted roll, the only in-game fix is Chaos Chordstone — a full Craftwork + Temper reroll (Hotfix 2/3 rules below). Per-Temper reroll was announced for a future update in Preludes 15 notes; it is not live yet, and there is no confirmed ship date.
Official Preludes 15 rules convert many pre-patch crafted weapons to Stock or Noble quality. Both can be refined — do not delete old inventory until you read patch notes.
After Preludes 15 launched, Hotfix 2 sent Dispatches from Orlick to migrate older gear (community catalog, official forum via Preludes 15 wiki):

Chaos Chordstone completely re-rolls a weapon's Craftwork and Tempers (community catalog: "chaotic refinement"). It is only available through these Dispatches at this time — not a normal Tuvalkane recipe.
Hotfix 3: Chaos rolls keep previously rolled Tempers and add new ones; Legendary 8-Temper only applies when you Refine to Legendary, not from Chaos alone.
Check your Dispatches mailbox before dismantling old inventory.
Hotfix 12 (Jul 15): dismantled resources no longer vanish when you break down gear while in a Party — still dismantle in the Nightfold only. See multiplayer co-op.
Zenith sells starter Chordstones for Arcs and rotates Noble-tier weapon offers on a ~6-hour timer — check Wares of Zenith when planning buys.
Verify Bond rank, costs, and tier names in your client after each hotfix.
