Soulframe Boss Mechanics — Smite, Stagger & Co-op Scaling
Smite · phases · party scaling
Quick answer — the core boss loop
Boss fights in Soulframe revolve around Smite, Stagger, and Finishers. Build the yellow Stagger bar (kicks, parries, charged heavies) → stagger or knock the boss down → light attack the Finisher prompt for burst damage. Smite runs the second loop: set a boss's soul ablaze, then Pull Smite (Spectral Sight + light attack) for a burst that recharges your Pact Arcanic and refreshes your active Rune.
Source baseline: community catalog Gameplay (Stagger, Smite, armour, co-op). Per-boss telegraphs stay on each boss page and fable guides.
Stagger, knockdown, and finishers
Bosses use the same Stagger meter as normal enemies, but thresholds and windows differ.
| Concept | What players mean | Practical tip |
|---|---|---|
| Stagger bar | Yellow meter separate from Life | Kicks, parries, and charged heavies build it faster on many bosses |
| Standing stagger | Boss reels but stays up | Finisher prompt may appear — light attack while prompted |
| Knockdown | Boss on the ground | Ground finishers need correct spacing; uneven floors fail more often |
| Unblockable hits | Red or slam telegraphs | Dodge instead of blocking — see Torment Stag stomps |
Hotfix 14 (Jul 29): official notes fixed a rare parry client crash — see Combat mechanics · Preludes 15 patch notes.
Stagger tools (Bestone, Phantom Flock, etc.) are fight-specific — listed on each boss guide, not here.
Smite and the “glowing soul”
Smite is a crit-like proc: hits can set an enemy’s soul visibly ablaze. You do not need Spectral Sight active to see a Smited soul.
Pull Smite (Spectral Sight + light attack on a Smited target):
- Deals a large burst of damage
- Recharges the Pact Arcanic that matches the soul colour on cooldown
- Refreshes your currently active Rune duration
Smite-immune enemies exist (community-reported) — the known case is Thrice-Bound Impidh (Central Midrath; world boss list): the whole Smite loop simply doesn't run on it. When that happens, drop the Smite leg and lean on your weapon/Arcanic rotation instead — e.g. the community Tethren spirit build falls back to a plain Fellust × Orbit Blade loop (build page).

Boss “phases” on this site
Soulframe rarely prints “Phase 2” in the UI. When guides mention phases, they usually mean:
- Arena transitions — new room, adds, or puzzle gate (example: statue door before Lady Deora)
- Attack pattern shifts — boss enrages or swaps move set at Life thresholds (verify per encounter)
- Fable scripting — back-to-back fights with no checkpoint (Torment Stag after Lady Deora)
Use the linked boss page for telegraphs; this hub only defines the words.
Enemy armour (grey Life bar)
Heavy armour subtracts damage down to a minimum of 1. If your light attacks only tick 1 damage, the health bar can look greyed out until you:
- Use heavy attacks
- Apply armour-shred effects (some totems/talismans)
- Buff damage temporarily
Community call this “immune” — it is usually armour, not a separate phase.
Mockery enemies (Preludes 15)
Mockeries got a combat pass in P15 — screaming projectiles, rot pools underfoot, and Armoured / Impidh variants in arenas.
| Where | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Glades of Andurin Arena | Impidh Mockery every 5th wave |
| Endless Arena | Impidh on waves 5 & 10 |
| Overworld / Tales | Standard, Armoured, Thrice-Bound |

Cogah & hard-mode scaling (Preludes 15)
When you ring Cogah bells for hard-mode Agari (Elite hunting covers the full Cogah system; community catalog: 16 indexed — 10 overworld + 6 dungeon; siege nodes use separate timers — see location table):
- Spawned enemies start at level 50 (not your zone level)
- Enemy level scales with party size — same rule as boss co-op below
Plan Virtue gear and Life Elixirs before long bell chains.
Multiplayer scaling (Preludes 15)
Co-op rules that affect every boss:
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Party size | Up to 4 Envoys (was 3 earlier in Preludes) |
| Scaling | Enemy levels rise with party size — more players = tougher, not a free carry |
| Matchmaking | None — recruit via chat or Discord (co-op guide) |
| Fables | Host owns story instance; rewards can desync in co-op — agree roles first |
Example FAQ: Torment Stag co-op + accordion on that page.
Regain (why the yellow Life slice matters)
When you take damage, part of your lost Life appears as a yellow Regain bar. Melee hits heal you up to that amount until the bar expires or you get hit again. Some talismans increase Regain healing — see item pages.
Boss guides seldom repeat this; it explains “I healed mid-fight without a potion.”
Drops, RNG, and Preludes 15
We do not publish farm rates unless community catalog or in-game verification backs them. If drops feel bad:
- Check Farming routes for verified sources
- Read Preludes 15 notes — whole-weapon drops, Chordstones, and Virtue Lith removal are live
Homepage community pulse summarizes forum threads; it is not a drop table.
