Totems & Talismans in Preludes 15
Totem rework · Harmony · Virtue tie-in
Quick Answer:
- The UI now says Talisman, but the underlying Totem system ties into Virtues, Runes, and Smites.
- Slot a totem on its matching Virtue socket for stronger scaling; each weapon has 3 base totem sockets plus a 4th when a Rune is equipped.
- Old inventory Totems convert to Harmony currency, spent on totem/rune upgrades and the charm mini-game.
- Totem-bearing animals cluster by biome — rivers/lakes for Beavers and Ducks, meadows/forests for Squirrels, Rabbits, and Deer.
- Smiting Stag and Binky Kick are community-favoured picks for the current Exploding Totem build — see the build breakdown below.
Totems & talismans (Preludes 15)
The UI now says Talisman, but patch notes still describe a broader Totem rework tied to Virtues, Runes, and Smites.
What changed
- Old inventory Totems convert to Harmony currency (migration rules in official patch notes).
- New talismans interact with your Virtue build — read Virtues explained before re-rolling gear.
- Virtue Lith is removed — adjust Courage / Spirit / Grace free per loadout in the Arsenal.
- Smite rework (P15): the old on-pull healing burst and single-target damage spike moved into slotable totems. Cooldown reduction on the Virtue-matching Arcanic when you Pull Smite is still a core Smite effect and feels stronger than pre-rework in many builds — often refreshing the matching ability after one pull.
How Virtue scales totems
| Rule | In practice |
|---|---|
| Virtue tag | Each totem has a Courage / Spirit / Grace affinity |
| Matching socket | Slot on the same Virtue socket for the higher numbers shown on the card |
| Your Virtue points | Final power scales with how many points you invested in that Virtue — a healing totem at 10 Spirit heals far less than at 40 Spirit |
| Hyper-specialise vs spread | Max one Virtue → fewer strong totems; spread points → more totems at moderate power |
| Rune trade-off | Some runes add raw damage; others add an extra totem slot of a specific Virtue (e.g. Grace). On a Grace build, the extra Grace slot can matter more than a small damage rune — see Runes & enchanting |
Rune-slot scaling — two community versions: earlier tests suggested the Virtue-matching bonus may still apply to rune-unlocked extra slots despite the UI; an August 2026 hands-on video reports those extra slots do not scale with Virtue at all (suspected bug). Both versions are community-sourced (pending re-test) — treat rune-slot totems as possibly unscaled in your damage math.
Weapon totem slots (community catalog)
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Base slots | 3 totem sockets on each weapon — each totem has a Virtue tag (Courage / Spirit / Grace) |
| Matching slot | Equip on the matching Virtue socket for the Virtue-scaling bonus shown on the card |
| 4th slot | Unlock a fourth totem socket when a Rune is equipped on that weapon |
| Same-type exclusion | Only one totem of a given type fits per weapon — regardless of attunement variant (community-tested; supersedes the earlier "different ranks/animals OK" reading). Main hand + off-hand can still run the same type each, and most effects stack across hands |
| Stowed weapons | Totems on a stowed weapon keep working by default — the exception is Smiting Stag (see below), which only reads the current weapon's Rune charges (community-tested) |
| Swapping | Totems are non-consumable and move freely between weapons |

Where totem animals spawn (community)
Totem-bearing animals cluster by biome (community-tested mapping):
| Animal | Where to hunt |
|---|---|
| Beavers / Ducks | Rivers, lakes, coastlines |
| Squirrels / Rabbits / Deer | Meadows and forests |
| Rats | Villages, forts, and the Dermak Undersity |
| Everything except Rats | Also roams the Glades of Andarin |
Rare animals ≠ rare totems (community observation, possibly a bug) — a rare animal spawn is no longer a guarantee of a rare totem drop. Hunt by biome, not by rarity glow.
Harmony income — three sources (community)
Harmony (the migration currency for upgrading talismans) comes from exactly three taps (community-sourced):
- Releasing duplicate totems you don't need.
- Releasing runes — see Runes & enchanting.
- The charm mini-game's perfect / bonus notes — the Fipple Flute rhythm game.
Smite timing & totem triggers
A normal Smite (enemy soul glowing) lasts about 10 seconds before it expires or you Pull it.
Totems fall into four trigger families — read tooltips in-game to see which applies:
| Trigger | When it fires |
|---|---|
| Passive | Always on; some scale with remaining Rune charges on that weapon |
| On Smite | When an enemy starts glowing (Smite appears) |
| On Pull Smite | When you Pull the Smite (Spectral Sight + light attack) |
| While Smited | While you attack an enemy that is still glowing — ends when you Pull or the Smite expires |
Active-hand rule: many On Pull totems only fire from the weapon you are holding when you Pull. Switch back to your main weapon before pulling if the totem lives there. Equipping the same On Pull totem on both hands sometimes stacks (community-tested; may change in patches).
Koga rhythm: Arrow Hail / Orbit Blades → Smite → Pull loop, boss charge management, and “Rune then Pull” habits are in Runes & enchanting → Koga combat rhythm.
Community totem picks (P15 · not exhaustive)
Sourced from community guides (totem overview, Jul 2026). Verify in-game — bugs and balance patches change quickly. We do not list exact damage numbers here.
Near-mandatory
| Totem (community name) | Why players slot it |
|---|---|
| Smite Instinct | Raises Smite chance on the weapon that carries it. After P15 Koga nerfs, many players treat this as required for Arrow Hail / Orbit Blade Smite farming |
Strong — Smite & trigger
| Totem | Notes |
|---|---|
| Smiting Stag | Passive — +6% Smite chance per Rune charge on the current weapon, 24% at 4 full charges ("always keep these slots full"). Reads only the current weapon's charges — the one totem exception to the stowed-weapon rule above. (Community-measured, single source — re-test after patches.) Core of the Exploding Totem build |
Strong — damage & clear
| Totem | Notes |
|---|---|
| Binky Kick | On Pull AoE around you; both hands can stack (may be intentional or bug) — popular trash clear. Community-measured: 125 base damage, and in the matching Virtue slot the damage is almost doubled (single source — re-test) |
| Hair Haunt | On Pull AoE around the target; active hand only |
| Moving Mask | On Pull — pulls one enemy to you + moderate damage; cherry-on-top for melee follow-up |
| Diving Drake | On Pull single-target; ignores armor; fine for trash, weak on bosses |
| Voltag Curry / Arcane Gnosis (element variants) | Bonus damage while enemy is still glowing; core for Spirit caster burst windows |
| Due Claw | Passive rune-attack boost; community reports stacking quirks — one copy is safer than two |
Strong — stagger & control
| Totem | Notes |
|---|---|
| Bandicuter Blast | On Smite appear — AoE stagger around nearby enemies; can chain mass staggers if packs stay grouped |
| Blinding Bite | On Smite — large-radius blind; strong for Grace bow sneak lines; overlaps with Sirin’s powder niche |
| Hollow Turd | On Pull decoy at your feet; works even on off-hand slot per community testing |
Sustain
| Totem | Notes |
|---|---|
| Heal Prings | On Pull AoE heal; stacks from both hands |
| Rivers Revive | On Rune activation — heal over time; does not refresh if you trigger a second rune during the HoT |
| Dagger Dredge | On Pull self-heal; stronger single-target heal, active hand only |
| Armor Coat / Servile Ward | Passive armor from full Rune charges; both hands stack — pairs with Bromius / Ode Tempest armor windows |
Usually skip or low priority
| Totem | Why |
|---|---|
| Thundertail | Rune-triggered stagger around you — weak payoff vs Bandicuter; community reports unreliable procs |
| Turn Task | Brief enemy flip — often too subtle; controlled target can become invulnerable to you |
| Far Fowl | Smite range extension — base pull range is already large |
| Lingering Litter | Supposed to extend Smite duration — community could not confirm it working |
| Starky Lodge | Temporary armor on Rune — values too small to matter in tests |
Use with caution (possible bugs)
| Totem | Community report |
|---|---|
| Noble Nestling | Should temporarily raise Virtues after Pull; red Smite on Courage builds was reported to drain stats instead — re-test after each patch |
| Draft Them | Works on Tree Fell charge reduction; Flint Smoke may only change the UI meter, not real duration |
| Quick Draw | Attack-speed on Pull — value depends on weapon (bows often do not benefit; wands need Virtue requirements met) |
| Sprout Spring | Teamplay effect — two community versions, both unconfirmed in solo: (a) teammates have a chance to gain Rune charges and can pull each other's Smites; (b) teammates have a 1-in-2 chance to inherit the Pull explosion ("chain of swords"). Both marked community-tested, pending re-test — only worth slotting in coordinated groups |
Community build: Exploding Totem (community)
The loudest community build of the P15 summer (all numbers and rules community-measured — source video, G Fuel-sponsored creator content, not official):
The kit:
| Slot | Pick | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Grace slots ×2 | Binky Kick + rune-unlocked extra | The Pull explosion — 125 base, near-doubled in the matching slot |
| Spread | Sprout Spring | Teammates inherit explosions (1-in-2, community-tested) → chains |
| Smite engine | Smiting Stag | +6% per charge × 4 = 24% Smite chance at full charges |
| Free slot | Diving Drake or Heal Prings | Single-target punch or sustain |
| Rune | Any rune adding a Virtue-side extra totem slot | More explosions per hand |
How it plays:
- Trigger weapon matters — totems only work from the weapon that triggers the Pull ("totems don't work in combination with your primary… at least not to my findings"). Arrow Hail is the best Smite trigger (Grace-side); fly blades are the runner-up.
- Cluster first, then trigger: pull packs deep into a dungeon corridor, or catch a siege wave — the explosion chains multiply on grouped enemies.
- In teams, teammates inherit explosions and can chain them onward (Sprout Spring behaviour above).
⚠️ Nerf warning (time-sensitive): the build's OP status is a community time-point report — "the developers haven't come up with a fix yet… they might nerf it." Three independent community sources agree totems are overtuned right now (the Aug hands-on tests, the build video, and a third reviewer's "some of them are definitely doing a bit too much"). Expect a hotfix to touch these numbers; re-verify before investing deep.

Known totem issues (community-tested, HF14 timepoint)
Community bug reports from the Aug 2026 hands-on pass — Hotfix 15 did not touch totem balance (it only fixed a Pull Smite script error), so these are probably still live. Re-test after each patch:
| Issue | Status (community) |
|---|---|
| Dewclaw (Rune damage buff) | Was infinite stacking → hotfix broke it → currently does nothing |
| Lingering Litter (Smite exposure extension) | No effect observed |
| Quick Draw dual-wield | Sometimes only affects one hand, or does nothing |
| Spreading Sploot | Over-procs in co-op — even dead enemies get Smited |
| Global multipliers (Call of the Ancients; stealth multipliers like Pictrix Powder / Blinding Bite) | Randomly fail — suspected global issue, not per-totem |
| Noble Nestling low end | Scaling occasionally zeroes; buff colours mismatch in co-op |
| Rune extra slots | No Virtue scaling (see the two-version note above) |
Patch fixes (official)
- Hotfix 10 (Jul 8): Removed virtueless Totems; added 1000-cap charm prompt and saves when totem inventory exceeds cap.
- Hotfix 12 (Jul 15): Fixed Totem duplication when collecting multiple copies of the same type.
- Hotfix 14 (Jul 29): Fixed errors when using a Totem and when activating Pull Smite.
- Hotfix 15 (Aug 19): Fixed another script error after activating a Totem with a Pull Smite.
- Full rows: Preludes 15 update notes — Hotfixes 10, 12 & 14.
Historical note
- Hotfix 1 (ended): From Preludes 15 launch through 15 June 2026, Totem-bearing animals dropped at double rate — a limited event that is over. Current animal loot follows normal P15 rules.
- Official row: Preludes 15 update notes — Hotfix 1.
- This promo did not alter the Totem→Harmony migration or Talisman socket rules above; it only temporarily boosted animal drops.
Do not mass-delete pre-patch mats until you confirm migration in your client.
