The opening tutorial. After choosing your Pact and allocating starting Virtue points, you wake beside a rock in Midrath.
Objectives:
- Press G to summon your Guiding Sparrow and follow it
- Activate a Revive Shrine by approaching it
- Reach the Nightfold hub
- Interact with Orengall (the sleeping white wolf)
- Return to Alca to complete the tutorial

- The Nightfold lets you swap weapons and upgrade your Pact
Unlocks: Nightfold hub, basic controls, weapon equipping
The Last Pensive
Ancestor Orlick has lost his quill. Find it and return it.
Objectives:
- Travel to the Pensive's Tower
- Clear the patrolling enemies outside
- Find the broken wall entrance on the right side of the tower (contains a chest with Sollos-I fragments)
- Enter via the side stairway and climb the spiral stairs
- Find Orlick's ghost in the mid-level room
- Follow your Sparrow to the gravesite outside; defeat the guardian
- Interact with the grave to receive the Pensive Quill
- Return inside and place the quill in the inkwell
- Merge with Orlick
Tips:
- Group the outside enemies and use AoE to clear them quickly
- There is a hidden chest behind the tower
- The letter at the gravesite is from Sigil to Singer
Unlocks: Orlick joins your Nightfold, Codex unlocked
The Steelsinger
The quest that unlocks the crafting system.
Objectives:
- Find the Moonsteel Helm near Oro's Well, guarded by enemies
- Clear ranged enemies first, then melee
- Pick up the helm (you cannot attack or defend while carrying it)
- Put the helm down before fighting any enemies on the path
- Carry it to the nearby ruined forge and place it by the furnace
- Watch the Tuvalkane cutscene
Tips:
- You are completely defenceless while carrying the helm
- Clear all enemies along the route before moving it
- Tuvalkane is a descendant of the legendary blacksmith Kane
Unlocks: Tuvalkane joins your Nightfold, Crafting and Reforging systems unlocked
The Torment Stag
Triggers when you leave the Nightfold after completing The Last Pensive. One of the most important early Fables.
Objectives:
- Trigger Lady Deora's vision on leaving the Nightfold
- Follow your Sparrow to the Ode'n camp; defeat Sinecure mercenaries
- Break the cage to free Avakot (Sproutfolk merchant)
- Choose: pay 80 Dracs or say "You rather the Ode have him?" for free information
- Enter the Undercity of Dermak to recover the totem
- Use ceiling traps inside the dungeon to kill enemies
- Find Avakot's vault and take the totem
- Use Spectral Sight to find and merge with Fenn Jotar's wandering spirit
- Receive the flame sword Igne Mora; use it through the remaining area
- Outside the dungeon, find the broken Echo Stone in Luminns village
- Play the flute to repair the stone; trigger Lady Deora's childhood vision
- Reach Garren Shrine; the totem reveals the door to a secret grove
- Enter the Glades of Andurin; solve the deer statue puzzle
- Defeat Lady Deora first
- Purify Deora in the Nightfold
- Defeat the corrupted Torment Stag
- Pull out Duhk Halic to cleanse the stag
Deer statue puzzle solution: Use Spectral Sight to read the direction the deer heads face on the four wall murals. Rotate each statue to match the corresponding direction.
Tips:
- You cannot exit the dungeon mid-run (only by relogging)
- Lady Deora casts a bind spell when at long range
- Saying "I'm a little, uh, short..." triggers Avakot's sarcastic reply
Unlocks: Garren Rood Pact fragment, Garren Rood armour fragments, The Royal Tines Short Blade fragments, Glades of Andurin area
Brewer of Hues

- Defeat Nimrod; continue following the rat through the forest
- Reach a dead end; interact with the small statue on the right and play
- Reveal a hidden path; find Ancestor Verminia
- Defeat Nimrod again to complete the Fable
Tips:
- Nimrod uses lightning attacks — dodge aggressively
- The dead end is easy to miss; look right for the small statue
- Verminia is the alchemist Ancestor
Unlocks: Verminia joins your Nightfold, Alchemy unlocked
The Shewolf Snared
Triggered by finding a red balloon marker on the map. Requires active exploration to start.

- Clear enemies until Orengall appears and attacks one herself
- Speak with her; choose a response based on your Virtue alignment
- Complete the "Free Orengall's Pups" objective
Tips:
- Orengall is the true form of the sleeping white wolf in your Nightfold
- Completing this grants a permanent +1 Virtue point (you choose which Virtue)
Unlocks: Orengall Pact content, permanent +1 Virtue of your choice
The Wreck of Mestra Carmo
New Ancestor Fable added in Preludes 14. Prerequisite: complete The Steelsinger
Background: Mestra Carmo — the Siren of Coral Graves and finest duellist of the Duelo — commands a phantom crew along Midrath's coastline. Blue ribbons hang from shipwrecks, waiting for an Envoy bold enough to answer her challenge.
Objectives:
- Find shipwrecks along Midrath's coast; collect the blue ribbons tied to their hulls
- Bring the ribbons to Tuvalkane; she fashions them into the Duelo Bow
- Return to the wrecks and use the Duelo Bow to invoke the duels
- Fight three duels against Mestra Carmo aboard a phantom ship
- Witness Mestra Carmo return to the Silvern Sea
Tips:
- Each shipwreck corresponds to one duel

- Navalha Long Blade — the Duelo Pact's signature weapon
- Mestra Carmo joins your Nightfold as a new Ancestor
Orlick's Sanctuary
New progression path added in Preludes 14, also called "A Bicameral's Biography".
Unlock: Interact with Orlick after completing The Last Pensive
Overview: Help the late historian Orlick decide the subject of his writing by uncovering new insights hidden across Midrath. Progresses in chapters; each chapter completion unlocks new Orlick upgrade options.
Unlocks: Orlick upgrades, Scholar's Charm, chapter rewards
General tips
- Always activate Revive Shrines — they are your safety net
- Press G when lost — with an objective tracked, your Sparrow leads you there; without one, it points to nearby secrets or the dungeon exit
- Use Spectral Sight (E) in every new area — reveals hidden content and enables Smiting
- Talk to every NPC — some give permanent passive bonuses; others unlock Sparrow's Tales (short procedural quests rewarding materials and XP)
- The Nightfold is your base — swap Pacts, reallocate Virtues, and craft gear here
- The Journal tracks multiple quests — since Preludes 14 you can track several Fables, Votives, and Tales simultaneously
