Preludes 16 — Official Preview (Target: Mid-September 2026)
Temper crafting · fishing · wolf pup · preview
Quick Answer:
- Preludes 16 is not live yet — Digital Extremes is targeting mid-September 2026, a target subject to change, not a locked date.
- Headline system: a Temper crafting rework where dismantling weapons gradually teaches Tuvalkane their Tempers.
- Also announced: fishing, a wolf pup companion, and dynamic weather — see the sections below for what is and isn't confirmed.
- Full Temper crafting details are expected on the official forums, ~Aug 28 – Sep 2; treat that Dev Workshop post as the final word on anything marked unconfirmed here.
- The live game today is still Preludes 15 + Hotfix 15.
This is a preview page. Everything below is officially announced but not live yet — sourced from the official Devshort (Aug 19, 2026), Devstream 16, and TennoCon 2026. Once Preludes 16 ships, the canonical patch page will live at Preludes 16 update notes and this guide becomes a returning-player hub.
Preludes 16 is the next major update for the Preludes build of Soulframe. Digital Extremes is targeting mid-September 2026, aligned with the next Devstream. Nothing on this page is in the game yet — treat every mechanic as subject to change until the patch notes go live.

Temper crafting rework — Tuvalkane learns from your dismantles
The headline system of P16, straight from the official Devshort:
- Dismantle to teach: every time you dismantle a weapon, Tuvalkane gradually learns the Tempers it contained. After she has seen a given Temper enough times, it becomes permanently unlocked in her knowledge.
- Any weapon qualifies: rank 30 weapons at any craftwork tier can receive custom Tempers — no Legendary required. Legendaries stay valuable because they hold more Temper slots (crafted legendaries are guaranteed eight; community data).
- Fast and cheap: swapping a Temper has a small crafting cost and completes instantly — you can re-roll the same weapon repeatedly to reach your exact build.
- Shiny vs. double Tempers: per the Devshort, Tuvalkane will not learn shiny (cosmetic) Tempers. A staff clarification on the official Discord confirmed double-strength Tempers are planned — whether they are learned separately or by stacking is not yet confirmed.
- Moonsteel caveat: earlier community reports suggested the system would not apply to Moonsteel weapons — the Devshort did not re-confirm this. Treat the Dev Workshop post (~Aug 28 – Sep 2) as the final word.
- A short, skippable cutscene plays when Tuvalkane forges — you'll watch it anyway.
Community note (unofficial): popular prep advice is to keep multiple copies of your favourite Temper weapons now, so Tuvalkane has more learning material the day P16 lands. Whether dismantling a drop without picking it up counts is unconfirmed — presumed yes, but verify after launch.
Fishing (optional vegan)
- Six fish types and six lure types, with consumables as the main reward loop for now — more reward types will be layered in after launch.
- Release or harvest: the choice you make with each catch decides which consumables you get.
- Spectral Sight synergy: the more you fish, the better you see — deeper water visibility and species identification improve over time.
- You can reel up junk and oddities — old talismans, and yes, a boot.
- Fishing yielding Totems is on the docket for the future; for P16 it feeds resources (and treats for your pup — see below).
- The mini-game is lightly affected by the new weather system.
Wolf pup companion
The first step toward the mount system, officially framed as "laying the runway":
- Getting your pup: complete the Orungal Fable and choose a pup — the choice affects its starting temperament.
- You shape what it becomes by playing: summon it into combat to raise a guard wolf; praise and pet it to raise a support companion; open chests and gather with it nearby to raise a scout that sniffs out loot (including steals from the Ode).
- Fetch game confirmed. Feeding ties into fishing — optional synergy with a resource boost.
- One pup in P16. The choice matters: committing your pup as a mount means it grows up — you lose the puppy form. More pups will be acquirable later.
- The full wolf mount system is a separate, later release (official: mid-October) — not part of P16.
Dynamic weather
- Weather now shifts live in the open world — night lightning storms are already a spectacle in internal play.
- Storms empower the Ode (the sky conquerors) and their casters; Voltaic effects gain strength during storms.
- After rain, resources are more plentiful.
- The fishing mini-game and future systems react to conditions.
- P16 ships the surface layer of this system — deeper integration comes later. (No Breath-of-the-Wild lightning strikes on players; a lightning-rod gear idea was joked about for later.)
Quality of life incoming
- Whisprig acquisition rework is imminent (officially stated on the Devshort as arriving in a near-term hotfix, possibly before P16): Glades play exceeded expectations, so Whispering Motes drop locations and drop methods are being adjusted, which should also make Chordstone crafting less painful. See farming routes.
- The 350-slot inventory purchase bug — being unable to buy your final capacity when within 50 slots of the cap — is officially targeted for the P16 cycle, per the Hotfix 15 notes. See inventory management in the meantime.
Beyond P16 (announced at TennoCon — do not assume these ship with P16)
| Content | Official window | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Warsongs questline | Fall 2026 | The Envoy's origin story — the mother, and antagonist Tempest Bayor (voiced by Ben Starr). Details: Warsongs fable details. |
| Vadagar Pact | With Warsongs | Corruption powers — see the Vespers row below. Community positioning: the "first evil pact" (community view). Naming note: one TennoCon recap calls it "Battleguard Pact" — this site keeps Vadagar Pact until the Dev Workshop or a Devstream settles the official name. |
| Eldveil Empress | With Warsongs | Voiced by Jennifer English (Baldur's Gate 3). Her rescue happens in the sky realm above Midrath — the demo ends with the Envoy ascending into an entire upper world (community-transcribed; a Zelda-TotK-style vertical expansion, per reviewer framing) — and as a fae / nature's avatar she may know the secret of the Envoy's blue arm. Spelling note: transcripts variously read "Eldfell"/"Eldvil" — this site keeps Eldveil pending official text. |
| Adult wolf mount | Mid-October 2026 | The grown-up version of your pup — with fur-pattern and cosmetic customization (community view: "Princess Mononoke style"). Mounts beyond the wolf are coming too: Rainbreaker — a mounted boss already live in the game — is fought to free her enslaved steed, with the chance to befriend it later once mounts exist (community-transcribed name and rules; the mount ran off in the demo — not yet tameable). Other showcased mounts exist beyond wolves (community report). |
| Coiled Dawn sword-whip | Release window not announced | Ivy-inspired multi-stage precise-input weapon. |
Vespers — the Vadagar Pact's corrupted virtues
The corruption powers get a full system name (community-transcribed official copy):
"Mired in corruption, you will draw power from your vespers instead of virtues. Follow this twisted new progression path and explore how healing Ala can come in many different forms."
- The corrupted virtues are called Vespers — three named: doom, death, and wrath (presumed to mirror Courage / Spirit / Grace; community-transcribed).
- The three Arcanics, with hands-on impressions from the TennoCon demo (community-tested): Volts Arc — an Eekor boomerang that bounces between up to 5 enemies and detonates on re-activation (a Dark Sector glaive design revived); Zephyr's Tendril — tentacles that bind at least 5 enemies, restricting movement and lowering defence; Ursaroxi's Stampede — summons a herd of caustic warhorses that damage along their path and leave corrosive Eekor pods behind (one reviewer's pick for "best clearing kit" (community view)).
- KOTOR-style light/dark alignment with limited early freedom — not a permanent morality lock.
Warsongs fable details (announced)
What the fall fable is shaping up to be, from TennoCon and demo coverage (all community-transcribed pending official patch notes):
- The frame: the night of the Ode invasion — the Spell Song reversed Alka's magicks and made the living forget themselves. Your mother saves you; that night is where the Envoy's story begins.
- Antagonist Tempest Bayor — the red-armed Envoy: "one of your own who has instead aligned himself with the invading Ode" (official framing, motive deliberately kept secret). Voiced by Ben Starr (Clive, Final Fantasy XVI; Verso, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33).
- You play the mother — as a beaver. In the Warsongs fable you take the mother's beaver form and fight immediately after giving birth; the mother can activate a "weapon group" ability the demo reviewer called the coolest ability in the game (community view), expected to unlock within the fable.
- A new sword and a corruption pack ship with the fable.
- Demo size caveat: the TennoCon demo was roughly half of the fall fable, per official clarification — don't read the demo as the whole thing.
Community expectations (heading into P16)
How the community is reading the run-up (community sentiment, Aug 2026 — not official):
- The bar is high. After Hotfix 15, the community broadly expects Preludes 16 (Reddit-suggested window: mid-September) to be a "HUGE MASSIVE update" — the goodwill from the P15 loot rework is carrying outsized expectations into the patch.
- Patience is thinning at the edges. HF15 reactions included "several weeks for this?"-type complaints — small hotfixes between major Preludes aren't landing as "enough" for some players.
- Standing grievances P16 is expected to address: the inventory capacity system ("genuinely poor design" per multiple critics), economy costs for non-hardcore players, and the 350 purchase bug (official fix target: P16).
- A communication ask. The P15-era complaint that large system reworks shipped without advance communication is shaping how the community wants P16 announced — more Dev Workshop visibility before the drop, not just patch notes after.
